Statement
| Statement | Jade Stout is a Scottish visual artist whose work explores the shifting space between land, sea and sky, those moments where weather, light and memory intersect. Drawn to the horizon as both a visual anchor and a point of transition, she uses paint to investigate how distance and emotion coexist within landscape art. Rooted in the coastal terrain of Orkney and the north coast, Stout’s practice begins with observation before moving towards abstraction. Layers of thin paint are built and reworked, allowing the surface to retain traces of time and gesture. Light and atmosphere are central to her work. Stout is interested in how colour conveys temperature and mood, how a muted grey or flash of gold can evoke weather, memory or the felt experience of standing between land and sea. |
