Statement

Statement

My subject matter centres on the figure and what is worn or treasured. Imagery is sourced from observation of interactions glimpsed, photographs, film stills and memory. The blurred cropped images, snippets of conversations, threads of fabric and fragments of memory combine to form works of emotional ambiguity. By exploring scale and the space between and around the figure, I attempt to capture a fleeting moment of emotion, memory or dialogue without reference to a specific timeline or context, which may be suggested by the pose patterning or dress for the viewer to engage with.

Some works are thin layers of paint with graphite powder, charcoal, bleach and ink, allowing such works to develop over time whilst others are deliberate opaque and immediate.
