Biography |
I’m Lotte, a Scottish artist, based between London and the west coast of Scotland. I’m currently studying BA Fine Art: Painting at University of the Arts London. My practice primarily focuses on oil painting and experimenting with etching and printmaking. I explore themes of place, nostalgia, absence and presence. My work reflects on the connection one can feel to a place despite having physically moved on and the range of complicated feelings tied to these circumstances. I am intrigued by the idea that in order for a viewer to recognise emptiness, they must perceive that something is missing. I aim to capture the feelings and stories that linger within a space regardless of who is really present. I’m inspired by evanescent nature of memory and explore the elusive quality of one’s recollection. My work has featured in the long-list exhibition for the Scottish Portrait Awards (2020 and 2021). I’ve exhibited in OXO Tower London (Bargehouse) ‘Before Now, After Then’ in 2023, and at Copeland Gallery ‘Coalesce’ in 2024 as part of student exhibitions. Currently you can see 2 of my etchings featuring in the Royal Society of Paint-Printmakers exhibition at Bankside Gallery in London. (19-29th September 2024)
