Statement

Figure drawing and painting was the starting point of my interest in making art some years ago.  And although I’m constantly working to extend my practice into other areas, in recent years I’ve been painting the urban landscape, inevitably I find myself returning to painting people in one way or another.

What I find most compelling is exploring the many and various ways in which people express themselves, their naturalistic movement, posture, gesture or spontaneity.  There’s an intimacy and immediacy in my figure paintings which can convey emotions, but often there also exists a certain ambiguity.
