Statement

Statement

“Living in Scotland, I am never far from the ever changing seas, skies and landscapes.”

“Photography plays a big part in my initial planning of a piece. It takes many shots to give me the essence from the search.

Once in the art studio, the oil paint magic begins. I play around with shapes, textures and colour, looking for the right balance and recipe. The way I use colour is not what I see when I am out and about. The colours in my paintings are from my imagination. I love using bright, vibrant, optimistic colour.

Over the lockdown, I have been painting a tree collection. A tree is so grounded, but can still spread out it’s arms and touch the sky. Something, I feel, we could all learn from during this Pandemic.

I would like people to gain as much enjoyment out of looking at my work, as I do in creating it. In my pictures you will be bombarded with lots of blobs, marks and shapes when you look up close. Moving further away, more detail will be realised. I want you to see things when you revisit my paintings, that you may have missed the first time. Working this way, generates a vitality that is not only gratifying to me as the artist, but in turn, I hope, touches those viewers who are ready for the experience.”

Biography

Biography

PAT KRAMEK was born in Edinburgh to a Scottish mother and a Polish father.

When she was five years old an uncle gave her a paint box for Christmas. Something happened. From then on she always loved to paint.

Her mother made magical dresses. The coming and going of beautifully textured fabrics and garments were a big part in her young life.

Naturally she was drawn to textiles and studied printed textiles and weaving at Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art, where she gained her DA.

After graduating she became a carpet designer with BMK. She then freelanced in lace design and designed fabrics and wallpaper with Anna French.

Pat also taught art and after successfully completing her post dip in computing, also taught computing studies at Belmont Academy in Ayr.

While this all was going on, all through her life, she still painted and exhibited her work in various galleries.

In the year 2000, Pat made the decision to follow her dream and become a full time professional artist.

Pat’s background in textiles is evident in her paintings which are full of texture and interesting colour.

A very bold use of thick oil paint applied with a spatula.

The way that Pat layers on the colour causes the paint to reflect more light. Very textured, just like woven cloth.

Interesting shapes, blobs of colour and marks, combine to make the creative piece.

Pat is well known in the art world for her Scottish Seascapes and Landscapes.

Pat’s work can be found in many private and corporate collections throughout UK and beyond.
