Statement
Statement | My work explores the poetic intersections of sound, image, memory, and place. I’m interested in what is hidden, overlooked, or fading — and in how technology can help us tune into the quiet frequencies of human and non-human experience. Whether working in film, audio, or installation, I seek to create space for reflection, connection, and radical empathy. At the heart of my practice is a belief in storytelling as a vital tool…not only for expression, but for restoration. I am drawn to environments that carry layered histories, especially those shaped by social or ecological transitions. I often work with archival material, field recordings, or live environmental data to uncover emotional landscapes and reveal the presence of absence. My artistic approach is rooted in careful listening: to people, to places, and to the silences in between. I embrace collaboration…whether with communities, natural systems, or emerging technologies…and view co-creation as a political and poetic act. In recent years, this has included immersive audio installations and ‘radio-films’, launching a new digital art movement (Digitalism), and creating BBC Radio 3’s Slow Radio: Coventry’s Riley Square, a sound portrait of post-war hope and quiet resistance. I also work to support others in finding their creative voice. Whether mentoring young filmmakers, teaching digital arts, or curating new platforms for emerging artists, I see facilitation as inseparable from creation. My own work is driven by the same impulse: to notice more deeply, to feel more fully, and to imagine new ways of being…with each other and with the world. |
