Statement

I am an artist who loves life and believes in living it well. My enthusiasm comes across in my art. Witty and thought provoking, and never to be taken at face value, my work shows I am not afraid to combine an edgy beauty with concepts from art, design, and psychology. This surfaces in both my tightly worked line art and free hand sketches. They can be stark, tinted or daubed wildly with colour. I like ink and I am often covered in it!
My work is mostly decorative which makes it hang-able but it is also the new radical. It’s covert symbolist in nature, the meaning within each piece is not revealed until you linger over it. I want you to place yourself in the picture and imagine what happens next.
I combine this with my work as a commercial photographer for businesses and I am always happy in a studio with a set of lights. My eye for high key composition and unexpected viewpoints filters through to my drawn work.
I’ve done some stuff and still do, I have authored a couple of academic textbooks, published widely, consulted in science and technology. I get easily bored doing any one thing.

Biography

I am one half of the Lucy & Roy Hughes creative artistic partnership.

Together we (Lucy & Roy) create unique art work. I have a background in graphics, design, technology and art. I am at home with technology as with the heart. My work tells a story and often contains subtle detail. I make, paint and draw.

Equally at home at contemporary art fairs or creating wall art for your home. Modern, contemporary, abstract, graphic, pop art and colourful.
