Statement

Statement

Artist specialising in coloured pencil complimented by the use of other forms of media. Such as PanPastels pastels and wax crayons.

Mixing, working & blending the pigment on the support is vital to my creative process due to the nature of the medium. Controllability of coloured pencils enables small details to be achieved.

Fascinated by contrast, how the light and dark contributes to the building up of human or animal form, and developed out of a collection of resources, gathered over the course of time and are then compiled, manipulated until the correct balance of light, dark and colour is achieved.

Coloured pencil is a very unforgiving medium with little room for error. At a certain point in the development there can be no rubbing out or painting over. The tooth of the paper dictates when mistakes can be corrected.

My practice is focused on portraiture, both human and animals, commission and non-commission. Essentially the aim is to breathe life, character and mood into each piece, and for the recipients of the drawing to be able to relate and connect to the subject matter of the piece.
