Statement
| Statement | My work is abstract in nature, deeply influenced by the coastal peninsula I call home and the landscapes I travel through. Rooted in an evolving studio practice, my process is shaped by research, dialogue, and continuous experimentation. As a multidisciplinary artist, I explore both traditional and alternative printmaking and photographic techniques, working with materials such as clay, wood, and fleece.
Materiality is at the core of my practice, guiding my engagement with texture, form, and process. Beyond the studio, I am actively involved in social engagement projects, collaborations, and artist residencies, fostering connections between people, place, and creative expression. Through my work, I aim to bridge the physical and ephemeral, responding intuitively to the natural and built landscapes that surround me. |
Biography
| Biography | I am a multi-disciplinary artist based in Innellan, originally from Cork.,Ireland. I moved to Glasgow in 2004 to take up a placement as a visual art tutor with Project Ability, where I continue to work. My practice explores printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and alternative photographic techniques, inspired by residencies at Benmore Botanic Garden, The National Library of Scotland, and the Scottish Ornithological Club. Supported by VACMA grants (2020–2022), I have combined solar plate etching and cyanotype on handmade papers and fabrics, exhibiting nationally and internationally. In 2023, a Creative Scotland grant enabled me to explore wood lithography (Mokulitho). Alongside community arts engagement, I am involved in projects including From Seed to Blue, researching natural dye pigments; From Fleece to Felt, working with locally sourced wool; and Forgotten Fleece Tales, a touring exhibition of textile artworks made from waste fleece.https://www.ardbeagcrafts.com/exhibition . My work also includes designing wearable porcelain and silver jewellery, as well as coastal-inspired ceramic forms. Through my multidisciplinary practice, I explore materiality, process, and place, responding to both natural and built environments. |
