| Statement | I am an Edinburgh based printmaker (Indigo Studios, Albion Road) who produces composite abstract works inspired by modernist buildings, landscapes and the Japanese aesthetic of Shibui. In 2024 I spent various weeks experiencing the seasonal diversity of the Western Isles as viewed from the sea looking landward aboard ‘Provident’. In 2025 I am making work that is more architectural in style. I also hold printmaking workshops in letterpress and typesetting. |
| Biography | Chris Sleath (b. 1967) grew up in a commune surrounded by potters, painters, weavers, photographers, sculptors, carpenters and gardeners. This all seemed way more interesting to him than going to college to learn ART. In a bid to cut the ties of an over-stimulated childhood and multiple parenting he did eventually go to college and studied exhibition design, perhaps to learn how to show other people’s ART. He learnt all aspects of printmaking whilst being the exhibition technician at Edinburgh Printmakers (est. 1967). Chris continues to show and hang other people’s work…but also his own. |
