Statement

Statement

My artwork consists of paintings of animals. What fascinates me about the animals is how they all respond to the world in their own unique way. This is what I strive to capture in my art – each animal’s individual personality and how their characteristics can be compared to those of humans. My current work tends to push the colours working in a criss-cross pattern, particularly in the background of the paintings. My interest in animals began in 2009 when I travelled to South Africa, and gained the experience of viewing the animals in their native land and habitat. I have since visited another 2 times. The sketches and photographs from my trip provided me with the starting point to paint animals. Since then, I have visited various animal parks spending days sketching and gaining more source material to paint the animals in my studio, and from this I have a set of very successful paintings.
