Statement
Statement | Lachlan Anthony Smith is a painter, sculptor, printmaker, and illustrator born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Where he recently graduated from Gray’s School of Art with a degree in painting and continues to develop his artistic practise that centres itself around the arts for health and wellbeing. Since graduating from Gray’s School of Art, Lachlan has quickly achieved success in exhibiting his artwork in Madrid, Berlin, Milan, Rome, and The Canary Islands. In addition to this, his work has been published in a fifth edition book that now resides in The National Library of Spain in Madrid. He has also exhibited work at The Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, as part of ‘The New Contemporaries’ Exhibition, where he was awarded The David and June Gordon Memorial Trust Award, that will in turn earn his participation in ‘The Gordon Contemporaries’ at Aberdeen Art Gallery later this year. His work examines the compact between engagement with nature, writing and artistic practice serving as a form of self – referential inquiry. That ultimately aims to support the mental health and wellbeing of the practitioner, through means of engaging with pragmatic therapeutic processes. Lachlan examines the discourse of such interactions, through the artwork and literature of creatives who share this understanding of recovery, direction and purpose instilled by means of re – attuning themselves with art, people and place. |
