Biography
| Biography | Michelle Cohen, born on January 3, 1978, in Saskatchewan, Canada, is a self-taught artist driven by a deep passion for interpreting the world’s beauty through her distinctive perspective. Currently residing in Glasgow, Michelle has recently opened her own gallery and workshop situated at 45 Union Street. Michelle’s artistry spans two mediums: painting with acrylic on layers of glass, creating intricate and mesmerising layered pieces, and street, landscape, and architectural photography. Michelle draws inspiration from the verdant Scottish landscapes, the seaside, fog, and other subtle nuances of nature. Scottish and Glaswegian history captivate her, and she was commissioned to do documentary photography of some of Glasgow’s oldest buildings while they were under restoration over the past two years. Her work focuses on patterns, shadows, and shapes, finding beauty in the details that often escape the notice of others. For a decade, Michelle passionately curated and managed an outdoor Glasgow city centre art and design market, collaborating with a vast community of over 1000 artists. Her commitment to showcasing diverse artistic voices had made the market a vibrant hub where creativity thrived. With meticulous attention to detail, Michelle cultivated a space where artists could connect with enthusiasts, fostering a supportive ecosystem for the arts to flourish on the High Street. Michelle has retired from running the market to focus on her own creative practice full time. When not creating art, Michelle is a skilled player of English billiards, snooker, and pool, proudly representing Scotland internationally. Balancing parenthood with her art and sports, Michelle finds joy in a life rich with diverse experiences. |
