I mainly paint in oils but embrace other media with relish such as acrylics, watercolours, inks, and combinations of these in my mixed media works. I focus on the atmosphere in landscapes and the individuality in life drawing. The harmony of colour and subtle detail in flowers are important aspects of my work. The Life Studio offers an opportunity for spontaneity in pencil drawing and painting. Abstracted memories and elements are ever present in my work although I also enjoy painting from life. My style is impressionistic and semi-abstract.
I love painting in layers and responding to the unexpected way the paint behaves. I swing from conscious delicate detail to the mish mash of beautiful chaos. No tools are off limits for achieving interesting mark making, with brushes, pens, twigs, palette knives and fingers being the basics.
I intuitively ‘feel’ the paint using sparks of pure colour and texture. I aim to distil the essence of the moment and make colour tell my story, my emotive narrative. I paint instinctively.
Art is my Buzz! I love landscapes, seascapes, flowers and Nature in all her glory. I am passionate about using colour and texture. I capture the raw beauty of the moment. I evoke a sense of atmosphere, an ethereal quality in creating my rough, abstracted diamonds of Nature. I feel this is my strength, my uniqueness. |

Teresa Samolewicz is an artist of original art, who paints in an intuitive, impressionistic and semi-abstract style. She works in oils, acrylics and mixed media. Colour and texture are key elements in her work as are memories. Nature is ever present in its beauty of detail and atmosphere.
Teresa Samolewicz was born in Glasgow, Scotland, UK in 1954.
Her early carer was in Primary Education (1975-1998). A Sabbatical embraced a semi-circumnavigation in a sailing yacht with her partner (1998-2005). This culminated with a return to Education as a Peripatetic Art Teaching in the Primary Sector (2006-2010). These are the stepping-stones towards Teresa Samolewicz emerging as a self-taught, mature artist having structured further learning with part-time courses at Glasgow School of Art, Strathclyde University and tutorage with recognised, established artists.
Teresa Samolewicz participated in BBC 4 Life Drawing Live (Feb. 2020). She was an exhibitor at Chester Art Fair (Nov. 2019) and The Dundee Art Fair (May 2019).
Teresa Samolewicz has shown in Group and Annual Exhibitions, Espacio Gallery London (Oct. 2020). Lillie Art Gallery, Glasgow (May 2019-2017). Roseangle Art Gallery, Dundee. Commended (Dec. 2018). Cass Art Gallery, Glasgow (March 2018). Local Venues (2017- 2014).
Teresa Samolewicz is presently collating a collection inspired by Nature. Her work is featured in the VAA International Online Spring Exhibition (April–June 2021).
She currently lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland.
