MESSAGE TO MEMBERS FROM SSA COUNCIL

Dear SSA members,

As advised on Tuesday 16 April, the Council of the SSA has taken the decision to postpone the Special General Meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday 17 April. Our sincere apologies to those who had registered to participate in this meeting – we will provide a new date and agenda shortly.

Our decision to postpone this meeting was taken as a result of concerns expressed among the membership regarding the pace of the Society’s proposed change in legal status to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). We recognise that members feel that  a longer consultation period is needed in this process; we are reviewing how best to provide this through a robust consultation structure going forward. This will allow members to learn about the proposed SCIO change and have their say on how changes to the organisation are implemented. We are always committed to ensuring that member concerns are taken seriously and that the SCIO change is moved forward at a pace that allows for proper inclusion of the SSA membership.

The Council has been working on the details of this proposed change in legal status since May 2023, and we believe that moving the SSA to SCIO status will be extremely valuable in helping the SSA to continue to develop and deliver opportunities to its membership in a contemporary context. We understand, however, that we need to do better in actively communicating this work to the SSA membership, and we will endeavour to answer any concerns expressed by the SSA members. We aim to achieve this over the coming weeks, and we urge as many members as possible to take part in the upcoming discussions.

We are committed to promoting the best interests of the Society and its membership in all our decisions. With regard to the SCIO process, our aim is to facilitate discussion and provide clear responses to your concerns so that we can move forward together.

SSA Council
